18, 2009, http://www.bigtex.com/ Everything is BIGGER in Texas and the Big Tex State Fair is no exception: it is the largest and longest running (24 days) state fair in the U.S. Here are some Texas Tidbits to stimulate your thinking and interest. The Texas-OU football game has been played during the State Fair of Texas every year since 1929. The Texas State Fair is the largest annual exposition in North America. Corny dogs were invented in 1942 by Texas State Fair concessionaires. Big Tex made his first Texas State Fair appearance in 1952. The Texas State Fair offers over 370,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space and more than 70 amusement rides including the 212 ft. tall Texas Star Ferris Wheel. The State Fair of Texas annually has 8,000 livestock entries, app. 7,000 creative arts exhibits and over 200 food outlets. And, when you plan to come, as you should, remember that the eather is nearly ideal during this time of the year for the State Fair of Texas.
